The event debuted in 2014 at IMTS – The International Manufacturing and Technology Show, held every other year in Chicago at McCormick Place, and is held at various events hosted by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology.
Proceeds from the M4M 5k run/walk held in 2015 in Orlando, Florida, during The MFG Meeting were donated went to the Friends of Max Hayes supporters group. The Friends of Max Hayes and WIRE-Net, a Cleveland manufacturing advocacy organization, work closely with the school and believe planned program changes could make it a career-tech model for the nation. The Max S. Hayes High School prepares young men and women for success in life-long learning and work by providing them with customized learning programs in selected career pathways based on their interests, offering programs in CNC machining, CAD, and welding, along with courses in computer design.
Since its debut at IMTS 2014, the M4M 5K has been run at meetings around the country and has raised more than $30,000 to assist middle school, high school, and technical college programs that promote careers in manufacturing. M4M has been held in Chicago, Cleveland, Orlando, Palm Desert, and Miami.
