Designed and built by Hardinge, the Super-Precision RS-Series multi-tasking CNC turning centers offer an array of features and performance for both job shops and production environments.

Designed to be true "hard-turning" and "hard-milling" machines, Hardinge's new Super-Precision RS Series machines are built with a rigid platform for today's high-performance cutting tools. The machines can be configured for 2-axis turning or multi-tasking operations, which include optional live tooling, C-axis on both the main and sub spindle, Y-axis and polygon turning that enable parts to be completed in a single setup.

According to Hardinge, the Super- Precision RS-Series is at the top of its turning product portfolio, featuring their renowned Quick Change Collet-Ready- spindle. All three Super-Precision models deliver programmable resolution/tool offset capability of 0.000010 in., 8µ-in. part surface finish and overall axis repeatability of 0.000030 in.

Built on a Harcrete-reinforced cast iron base for superior damping, the RS Series of turning centers is capable of hard-milling and hard-turning complex hardened parts up to 80Rc., while at the same time increasing tool life by up to 33%. "Test results of RS-Series machines prove this is the best turning center Hardinge has ever built," states Jeff Ervay, Hardinge Product Manager —Turning.

Distinguished by an exclusive Eppinger ESA 12-station turret top plate, which permits zero clearance, hands-free easy setup, and an extremely rigid tooling system, the Hardinge RS-Series also includes wide spaced and oversized heavy-duty linear guideways (or optional hydrostatic guideways); oversized 40mm ballscrews and axis drives; linear glass- scale (X-axis); Hardinge/GE Fanuc i-Series RS control unit with high-speed milling capability and multi-axis functionality; Fanuc Manual Guide i conversational programming; and Ethernet connectivity.

Among many exclusive features are HydroGlide hydrostatic guideways, ICEFLY cryogenic machining, and a shape-compliant chuck system.
