The new CADD-MS3 Ambulatory Infusion Pump for micro infusion therapies, from Smiths Medical MD, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It joins the already strong line of Smiths Medical pumps and is designed specifically to address the home infusion market.
The CADD-MS3 is a microprocessor-based electronic syringe pump with a 3-ml cartridge reservoir. It's designed for low volume syringe-based infusion therapy allowing continuous, automatic dose and demand dose delivery for subcutaneous, intravenous, epidural and intrathecal delivery.
The pump operates on one AAA alkaline battery. The device's user interface presents a backlit liquid crystal display, 4-key front keypad. Users can program basal (continuous), bolus (demand) and automatic dosing. There is a separate bolus button, audible or vibratory alarm, battery cap and cartridge cap. Waterproof, the CADD-MS3 has a cartridge sensor and downstream occlusion sensor.
