Session Topic: Art to Part -How to Use Technology to Go From CAD to Part to YOY Producitvity Savings — Practical Examples
Digital manufacturing mega trends and key drivers (talent, complexity, agility, mass customization, makers’ movement…)
How will these impact aero manufacturers, large and small, through the lens of a part lifecycle perspective (e.g. from design to quoting to planning to run offs to production and eventually end of program)
A few examples along the way, with partner’s permission, to explain how they’ve used digital manufacturing technologies and what’s the bottom line impact.

Senior Engineering Manager - Virtual Machining & Product Classification
Kennametal

- T. J. Long joined Kennametal in January 2000 on the Indexable Milling Engineering Team, where he was responsible for the development and commercialization of new Indexable Milling platforms.
- In February 2006, he became the Engineering Manager of the team.
- As an advocate of advanced technologies, he is knowledgeable in titanium machining, high speed machining, modal analysis, and finite element analysis.
- Long has a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s in business administration from Duquesne University.
Current position/tasks
- In November 2012, Long became the Engineering Manager of the Virtual Machining team, which is primarily responsible for the development of NOVO.
- In January 2014, he also became the Engineering Manager of the Product Classification team, which is responsible for managing Kennametal’s digital assets.
