Data intelligence to metal 3D printing build plates
Dyndrite entered an agreement with UPM Additive Solutions to create smart metal build plates for the 3D metal printing industry. The build plate is an integral component in metal 3D printing. It lays the foundation for every part being built, but most users don’t record key data around the life cycle and history of their build plates. Without this information, for example, Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) users face an increased risk of powder leveling issues, internal fatigue, and plate warpages that can lead to lost time and costly build failures.
The UPM Smart Build Plate service will support all major metal 3D printer OEMs, including Aconity, EOS, Renishaw, and SLM Solutions, and is expected to roll out in Q3 2023.

Expansion of additive manufacturing initiatives in the US
Siemens is expanding focus on additive manufacturing (AM) initiatives in the United States to help accelerate transformation of the U.S. AM industry through serial AM.
“We’re on the threshold of a new frontier in American industry, where the implementation of additive manufacturing will bring fundamental changes to the landscape, end-to-end, from product to machine to manufacturing,” says Steve Vosmik, head of Siemens Additive Manufacturing in the U.S. “Siemens is very excited to be at the forefront of this process.”
From its Charlotte Advanced Technology Collaboration Hub (CATCH), located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Siemens will act as an ecosystem platform for machine builders, machine users, and additive design engineers.
Siemens is also establishing an Additive Manufacturing Advisory Board of AM leaders, drawn from various industries and technical disciplines to provide the company guidance as it seeks to support the fast-growing needs of the AM market.
