About the topic
There are three main directions that measurement sciences are changing: hardware, software, and human/machine interaction (HMI). 3D cameras are merging projection mapping and structured light to identify how shadows change in the background to better understand depth. Artificial intelligence uses deep learning and machine pattern recognition to catch changes to production that are too small for humans to see. And augmented reality systems are radically altering how people interact with computer data. Our ability as manufacturers and users of this equipment to adopt this technology will be the pivotal point in our likelihood to succeed.

Rob Ortiz is the national senior project manager for Keyence Corp. of America’s Laboratory and Metrology systems. One of Keyence’s core philosophies is to remain five to seven years ahead of the rest of the industry when it comes to the usage of new technology. Ortiz’s background in robotics and software development has helped him lead American development and deployment of these next level technologies for the past 12 years. In that time, he has operated as a technology consultant for multiple fortune 500 companies as they aim to build and launch next generation products to market. Now, Ortiz helps Keyence look at what the next 10 years of technology will bring to the market.
