The innovative micro/mesoscale machine tool (mMT) technology was specifically designed for, and addresses, the unique requirements of micro scale manufacturing. mMTs are 10 x smaller, 4 to 7 x less expensive, and much less complex to operate than traditional machines currently on the market.
Employing mMT, Microlution's Model 310-S 3-axis micro milling machine produces prototype and low-volume parts under 63mm (2½ in.) in size.
The working volumes for the X, Y and Z axes are 63mm (2½ in.) each. The machine features high precision components including a 160,000rpm air-bearing spindle, granite support structures, openarchitecture CNC, AC linear motors and HEIDENHAIN linear optical encoders on the X, Y and Z stages. The design of the Microlution 310-S results in a 2 micron positioning accuracy, 0.02 micron resolution, and a maximum acceleration of 5G.

Small biomedical components, that were originally injection molded for production, that pose difficulties for prototyping.
The 310-S also utilizes an innovative kinematic workpiece and spindlemounting system that allows for easy removal and remounting of the workpiece pallet and spindle, with sub-micron accuracy. This capability allows users to perform precision metrology, by swapping out the spindle with a lasermetrology head to measure surface pwofiles of parts in process.
