Many leading medicaldevice manufacturers are now bypassing expensive postprocessing by using Medical Broach software. With it, such shops can import Unigraphics 3D models and convert them directly to the required code for grinding medical parts. Eliminating postprocessing reduces componentdevelopment time by as much as 80%.
The software is from Star Cutter, and the company's Medical Broach interface is what provides such an advancement. Using the interface, operators and designers specify design parameters and model medical devices on computer monitors. Full 3D simulation shows grinding paths, so programmers easily visualize parts for optimizing the grinding process. Star's Numrotoplus software then provides the horsepower for controlling the CNC during grinding cycles.
In addition to its software, Star's PTG2 and PTG4 CNC toolgrinding machines deliver flexibility for a range of medical parts and devices. Machine operators quickly and easily perform changeovers for grinding such parts as hip broaches, knee broaches, twist drills, reamers, and bone taps.
