The AgieCharmilles CUT F Series wire EDM balances high precision with productivity. The series builds on more than 70 years of GF Machining Solutions wire EDM innovation with thermal stabilization, enhanced axis encoders, improved ball screw precision, and a machine design reducing the effects of leverage and vibration for tight-tolerance part production.

The CUT F 600 optimizes safe cutting processes thanks to the company’s Intelligent Spark Protection System (ISPS) Spark Track platform. The optional iWire adaptive software module can reduce wire consumption and RFID SMART wire spools storing wire characteristics and traceability-related data.

Users can easily program the machines with the advanced UNIQUA human/machine interface (HMI) combining optimal functionality and ergonomics for every skill level on a 19” vertical screen. The UNIQUA HMI adapts to sequential or object-oriented programming and is compatible with all major CAD/CAM programs.

3-jaw power chuck

The KNCS-matic is the latest clamping system in the KNCS power chuck family. The product allows automatic quick jaw change by a conventional industrial robot. This releases the base jaws with a release pin, replaces them, and fixes the next jaws with the pin. Interaction with industrial robots enables the KNCS-matic to achieve short setup times ensuring reliable workpiece clamping with self-centering and repeat accuracy.

The KNCS-matic 3-jaw power chuck is available in six sizes, achieving a total clamping force of 100kN to 250kN depending on the size. The chuck can be used for a wide range of machining operations, since its jaws can be displaced or turned, and each jaw can be moved from 7mm to 10mm. In addition, KNCS-matic has a large passage of 52mm to 165mm. With speeds of 1,700rpm to 6,000rpm, the KNCS-matic ensures high machining speeds with consistently high precision. The Proofline seal makes the chuck low maintenance.

Partial- and full-profile thread turning inserts

The addition of the WT26 indexable inserts and toolholder system expands the company’s product range for small part machining or Swiss-style turning. The addition includes tangentially installed partial-profile and full-profile thread-turning inserts with sharp cutting edges to achieve optimal machining results for small diameter workpieces.

The precision-ground cutting edge and chip breaker groove ensure ultimate precision and tool life when turning. The tools are for turning a workpiece diameter up to 1mm (0.039") in automatic lathes and multi-spindle machines. The indexable insert screw can be accessed from both sides for simple insert indexing. The toolholder’s shank sizes are 0.500", 0.625", and 10mm x 10mm, 12mm x 12mm, and 16mm x 16mm. All WT26 insert types fit in the same toolholder. A dovetail profile absorbs lateral, or axial, forces.

The inserts are WSM23X and WN23 carbide grades. The universal physical vapor deposition (PVD) grade is for parting off, grooving, and turning with a moderate to low cutting speed (vc) and axial depth of cut (ap).

The uncoated WN23 is an extremely tough and abrasion-resistant grade for machining non-ferrous metals (ISO N20 material group). Secondary applications include machining steel, super alloys, and other materials such as carbon fiber composites and graphite (ISO P, S, and non-ISO O material groups).

The inserts feature six geometries. CD8 is for parting off, GD8 is for grooving, VG8 is for reverse back-turning and copy turning, DG8 is for forward turning, RA8 is for full-radius profiling, and UA8 is for grooving and groove-turning.
