Texturing dental implants and treating the surfaces of laser cut Nitinol stents are appropriate applications for the Advanced Lathe LA3250 micro-abrasive blaster. Roughening the threaded area of the dental implant increases the surface area for the tissue to take root, in turn improving the bond. Equally critical is maintaining a smooth surface on the apex of the implant to prevent bacteria growth. Micro-blasting provides the precision necessary to roughen the threads without damaging the finish on the apex. Micro-blasting also treats the surfaces of laser cut Nitinol stents, where removal of dross and laser slag creates a uniform finish for better electropolishing results while also removing micro-cracks.

The Advanced Lathe LA3250 provides the ideal platform for both R&D and production of medical devices. Using up to four axes of motion and unique tooling, the LA3250 is able to process a wide range of parts while providing accuracy, reliability and throughput.

The TTK70 Motor Feedback System is an absolute, non-contact linear measuring system delivering measuring lengths up to 4,000mm, resolution of <1μm, and system accuracy of <10μm, at operating speeds up to 10m/s. This results in precise and highly reliable absolute position determination for linear motors in a diverse range of applications. Rated for operation in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +85°C, the TTK70 motor feedback system carries the CE mark and is RoHS compliant.

The TTK70 consists of a read head and a magnetic tape featuring a magnetic code that forms the measuring scale – 10mm wide and up to 4,000mm long. The code consists of an incremental and an absolute track (twin-track tape) with absolute position values calculated by the read head first detecting the absolute starting position during start-up of the linear motor. All further positions of the drive are determined via the incremental position on the magnetic track with values transmitted via the HIPERFACE interface to the evaluation electronics of the linear drive.

UTILIS Multidec 1600 series thin grooving and micro-turning tools are capable of work under 0.125" in diameter utilizing insert widths from the thickness of a human hair (0.0019") up to 0.108" with repeatability of cutting edge within 0.0004". Ground from premium carbide grades for enhanced tool life in the toughest materials, the 1600 series is available with a variety of coatings. Designed to suit the smallest Swiss machines, small holder shanks are available down to 7mm. Toolholders for larger machines are also available. Additionally, these Swiss-type turning tools offer geometries for front turn, back turn, micro-threading and cut-off work. Full radius grooving and turning tools are available in standard increments as well. When combined with special ID working holders, the 1600 system handles axial (face) grooving and ID work on larger parts.
