FIVE-AXIS, 38MM SWISS TURN LATHE
The Tsugami B0 385 38mm 5-axis Swiss turn is the largest gang-style precision lathe in its class. With its rigid frame, integral double spindle, and capacity to hold 20mm diameter turning tools, the B0 385 performs heavy duty cutting with high precision and accuracy. A powerful 15hp main spindle with a maximum turning speed of 6,000rpm readily handles challenging materials while maintaining tight tolerances. The B0 385 provides true simultaneous operation of the main- and sub-spindle, and features a roomy, modular tool zone that permits quick and easy changeovers.
Other newer models offered by Rem Sales are the S207 20mm Swiss turn with continuous B-axis movement; the SS26 26mm chucker convertible Swiss turn; the S205 20mm Swiss turn; and the easy-to-learn and operate BE12/20-V Swiss turn.

FACILITATE CONNECTIONS WITH USB INPUT TOOL
A USB input device, that streamlines the interfacing of Mitutoyo Digimatic hand measurement tools with PCs, is the USB Input Tool Direct: USB-ITN. It includes seven models, with each model dedicated to a specific type of cable plug/ connector pin configuration, negating the need for two cables, lowering overall costs by as much as 32%.
When connected to a PC’s USB port, the USB Input Tool is automatically recognized as a HID (Human Interface Device) keyboard device, requiring no special software. A USB keyboard signal converter translates Digimatic display values to keyboard signals, enabling the direct inputting of data into the cells of off-the-shelf spreadsheet software, such as Excel. Data can also be automatically entered in Notepad or similar programs, with data capture being faster than manual entry.
Optional Mitutoyo USB-ITPAK Measurement Data Collection Software further enhances the productivity of USB Input Tool Direct: USB-ITN by simplifying set-up. Excel input destinations (workbook, sheet, or cell), cell-fill direction (right or down), cell fill intervals, and other settings can be specified. Sequential, batch, or individual measurement methods can be selected. USB-ITPAK also enables mouse button, function key, and foot-switch functions.
Categories of Mitutoyo Digimatic hand tools supported by USB Input Tool Direct: USB-ITN Include calipers, micrometers, indicators, depth gages, height gages, bore gages, surface roughness testers, laser scan micrometers, linear gage/counters, and hardness testing machines.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MASTERCAM X5, RELEASE OF SWISS EXPERT
The latest release of Mastercam X5 and Mastercam Swiss Expert is now available. Swiss machining software SylvieXpert – developed in Switzerland for Swiss machines by experts in the Jura region, and now part of CNC Software – has been refined and adapted to work in perfect harmony with Mastercam X5.
Other highlights of Mastercam X5 show how the software is delivering on speed for the user. The 3D surface high speed OptiRough toolpath is a technique designed to remove large amounts of material quickly, using a successful dynamic milling motion. Large, aggressive cuts are followed by fast, smaller up-cuts, safely delivering a fully roughed part faster than before.
Hybrid finishing intelligently blends two efficient cutting techniques in a single toolpath. The toolpath evaluates the model shape, smoothly switching between Constant Z cutting and Constant Scallop machining, resulting in a finer finish with less work.
Mastercam’s multi-axis suite offers machining techniques and an easy, workflow-oriented interface. Mastercam lets the user choose the basic type of work they are doing, using clear illustrations, and then gives the user a clear, step-by-step process for defining how to cut the part.
Finally, there is the dynamic milling, which constantly adjusts the toolpath to ensure the most efficient cut possible, allowing use of the entire tool flute length and often eliminating the need for multiple depth cuts. Dynamic milling techniques include Dynamic Rest Mill and Dynamic Contour.
