ERD Rod-Style Electric Actuators
A new size joins the line of ERD rod-style electric actuators, the ERD20, providing higher forces, longer stroke lengths, and a design featuring a larger diameter ballscrew with a stroke length of up to 24.0" (609.6mm). With this line extension, ERD rod-style electric actuators now deliver forces ranging from 20 lb (89N) for the smallest size, up to 500 lb (2,224N) for the ERD20.

The ERD family of rod-style electric actuators is available in body sizes that are equivalent to non-repairable pneumatic cylinder bore sizes of 5/8" (15.88mm), 1.0" (25.4mm), 1.5" (38.1mm), and 2.0" (50.8mm). Strokes are available in lengths up to 8.0" (203.2mm) for the ERD06, 10" (254mm) for the ERD10, and 24.0" (609.6mm) for the ERD15 and 20 sizes. The actuators accept a wide variety of NEMA and metric stepper and servomotors. In addition, all four sizes of the ERD product family are available with 300 series stainless steel options and IP67 options.

Quiet, Electric Linear Actuators
Through quiet (<45dBa), maintenance-free operation in a compact one-piece housing, the Thomson WhisperTrak linear actuator maximizes design flexibility and improves performance. Completely sealed, the IP67 enclosure enables the WhisperTrak electric linear actuator to provide true maintenance-free operation throughout the entire life of the actuator, even with regular exposure to wash-down, rain, dust, or other particulates. Even in these conditions, rating of the WhisperTrak actuator provides a minimum of 10,000 cycles.

Thomson WhisperTrak electric linear actuators are available off-the-shelf with optional electronic limit switches (ELS) and anti-rotation options, where the options do not increase the housing size, but fit within the compact envelope. The actuators operate at 12VDC or 24VDC, and are rated to handle static and dynamic loads up to 2,000N (450 lb) at speeds up to 5.8mm/s (0.23"/s).

Rotational Voice Coil Motor
The RVC-5 rotational voice coil motor is an instrument with the extreme precision of a galvanometer and the compact size and reliability of a resonant scanner, creating rotational translation using a flexure bearing. Achievement of the rotational translation is by tilting a precision mirror, grating, or other user-supplied load ±5°. Developed using advanced FEA technology, this flexure bearing will provide infinite life, and perfectly smooth motion that is free of stiction and friction, and is capable of positioning a load with unprecedented speed and repeatability.

This very compact RVC-5 rotational voice coil motor measures 25mm x 40mm x 15mm (1.00" x 1.54" x 0.61") high and has fully integrated absolute angle position sensor electronics. The non-contact electro-optic sensor directly monitors the user load with micro-radian scale resolution and repeatability. Command of this voice coil motor stage can be to oscillate or move to any fixed point in its angular range following a completely linear velocity move profile. Critical positioning specifications include:

  • Sensor Non-Linearity ±0.3% FS
  • Sensor Scale Drift 200ppm/°C
  • Sensor Short Term Repeatability 1.5µrand

Motion Sizing, Selection Software
Motioneering Application Engine 6.2.0 motion system sizing and selection software is an OEM design tool utilizing a mechanism project concept to collect and save load information for multiple axes, automatically calculate application results, and compare them against a database catalog of Kollmorgen products. Version 6.2.0 features a number of product updates to help simplify the task of specifying optimized motors and drive systems. Important updates include additions to the AKM servomotors family, the AKM8, and the new line-up of VLM servomotors.

Versatile units-of-measure options for mechanism and motion profile data-entry, along with the ability to convert data into other available units, make this a convenient tool for international machine designs, too. In addition, in rotary applications, Motioneering 6.2.0 can even sum the effects of multiple axes of motion to help size the power supply and shunt regeneration.

Once application results are calculated and system selections made, the Motioneering PDF generator creates a complete report of application results, system and product specifications, and system performance and user-profile curves with application placement within the plot – ready for easy review and distribution.

Stepper-Controlled Proportional Valve

Utilizing a robust and powerful linear actuator, the high-flow stepper-controlled two-way proportional valve (SCPV) – featuring an elastomeric seat – achieves consistent sealing to ensure smooth opening and fine control at low flow for millions of cycles. Also featuring 2% hysteresis, precision linearity (2.5% of full scale), and 2ms reaction time, the SCPV delivers a flow range of 0 to 300slpm as standard, with the product being highly modifiable for OEM applications including alternate body materials, flow profiles, cartridge styles, etc. This valve is ideal in critical applications while the unique design allows for custom flow profiles when required.

High Performance, Small Package
Pittman 8540 Series brush-commutated DC motors feature a greatly improved power density through use of bonded neodymium magnets, having approximately twice the continuous torque rating, compared with the previous generation of motors. The 8540 Series motors are 1.18" (30.00mm) in diameter and are available in three lengths; 2.114" (53.690mm), 2.585" (65.660mm), and 3.057" (77.650mm). Depending on the model, they can achieve a continuous torque rating from 2.500oz/" (0.018Nm) to 8.300oz/" (0.059Nm) without the use of a heat sink. The 8540 Series motors are available with eight standard windings ranging from 9.55V to 48V. For specific application requirements, customized windings are also available.
