With positioning accuracy of ± 2.5 µm and repeatability of ± 1µm, the Ultrasonic 20 linear delivers precision, quality, and flexibility for
hard machining of advanced materials.
The ultrasonic machining spindle creates an oscillation that makes the diamond tool pulse with a frequency between 17,500 and 48,000 times per second, depending on the spindle-type. This removes micro-particles from the workpiece surface, which leads up to a 5X increase in the removal rate, in comparison to conventional machining methods for advanced material.
In addition, the permanent gap between the tool and the workpiece provides a significant reduction in process forces and thermal stress, conserving the tool and the workpiece. The integration of the Ultrasonic Actor-system, on the basis of a redeveloped HSK-fitting allows conventional milling as well as ultrasonic operation on a single machine. This is made available on the Ultrasonic 20 linear with HSK 32 S.
The highly dynamic linear drives deliver better than 1.4 g acceleration in the X, Y, and Z-axes. A 16 position automatic tool changer is standard on the Ultrasonic 20 linear. A 32 position automatic tool changer is optional. An optional 4th and 5th axis with a torque motor in the C-axis is also available for additional flexibility. And, according to the company, a water-cooled USB 40 machining spindle with variable speeds up to 40,000 rpm, opens up a wide spectrum of diverse applications in the medical and optical industries. Additionally, excellent vibration absorption, sturdiness, and stability for such applications are ensured by the cast-mineral base in Monoblock design. All this adds up to low process forces during ultrasonic machining which ensures the open-porous quality needed for implants and prosthetics for use in the human body as well as for machining advanced materials in magnetic resonance imaging, X-ray technology, and the manufacturing of medical equipment.
