Governor JB Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, (DCEO), and the Illinois Economic Development Corporation (Illinois EDC), announced that DMG MORI Federal Services, Inc. (DMG MORI) will invest more than $40.5 million to expand the company’s footprint in Illinois – establishing a new advanced manufacturing and R&D facility in the Chicagoland area and creating 74 new full-time jobs. The expansion further strengthens Illinois’ position as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and solidifies the state’s commitment to pairing business growth with workforce development.

“Here in Illinois, we’ve built a dynamic business environment that attracts new companies and sustained investments. DMG MORI’s expansion will serve as an important example of this exciting new economic era for our state,” says Governor Pritzker. “As DMG MORI collaborates with City Colleges of Chicago to support workforce development initiatives, we’re not just creating the jobs of tomorrow, we are preparing Illinoisans to fill them.”

“Illinois has a proud legacy of manufacturing excellence, and our investment in the Advanced Manufacturing & Innovation Center builds on that foundation to shape the next generation of industrial technology,” says James Nudo, chairman of DMG MORI Federal Services, Inc. “By co-locating research and production in Chicago’s Goose Island industrial corridor, we are creating a powerful network effect that will accelerate innovation from discovery to deployment. This facility will expand our North American R&D capacity, advance additive manufacturing and automation technologies, and power production of dual-use and defense applications. We are proud to deepen our roots in Illinois and partner with the state’s leaders to strengthen America’s industrial competitiveness.”

DMG MORI, a global manufacturer of high-precision machine tools with its North American headquarters in Hoffman Estates, has committed to establishing a new advanced manufacturing and R&D facility in Chicago. The company has identified a site featuring 25,000ft2 of office space and 65,000ft2 of advanced manufacturing space to support the growth of the company.

This new facility will serve as the center for the company’s North American R&D operations and will drive key strategic initiatives, including:

  • A new Government Solutions Center to support projects.
  • The production of high-speed, high-accuracy optomechanical scanners and metal additive-manufactured components.
  • A dedicated workforce development partnership with City Colleges of Chicago.

Through this partnership, DMG MORI will establish a workforce training program in partnership with City Colleges of Chicago – directly connecting students to high-demand careers in advanced manufacturing. Illinois is home to the third-largest community college system in the nation, serving hundreds of thousands of students each year and acting as a critical engine of workforce mobility. Through strategic investments in community colleges and career and technical education programs statewide, Illinois is expanding access to industry-aligned credentials and hands-on training tied directly to employer demand – reflecting its role as the #1 state for workforce development in the Midwest and #3 nationwide. DMG MORI’s collaboration with City Colleges will build on that foundation, providing students with exposure to cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and creating a direct talent pipeline for the company’s growing operations.

With support from DCEO's Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program, DMG MORI has committed to investing at least $40.5 million and creating at least 74 new full-time jobs. In 2025, companies in the EDGE program committed to more than $2.6 billion in investments in communities across Illinois.

“As a global leader in machine tool manufacturing, DMG MORI’s investment further strengthens Illinois’ role at the forefront of advanced manufacturing,” said Illinois EDC President & CEO Christy George. “This expansion advances additive manufacturing and automation while creating accessible pathways to high-quality careers. Through its partnership with City Colleges of Chicago, DMG MORI is helping expand opportunity, strengthen talent pipelines, and ensure more Illinoisans can participate in the future of manufacturing.”

Guided by Illinois’ Economic Growth Plan, Governor Pritzker continues to build the foundation for long-term success by focusing on the key growth industries – including advanced manufacturing – and DMG MORI’s investment further strengthens Illinois’ position in this sector. The company’s expansion also adds to the growing list of global companies, including Silesia, Damera, and Diraq, that have recently committed to doing business in Illinois because of the state’s skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and commitment to economic development. These recent investments underscore Illinois’ reputation as a hub for foreign direct investment and as a destination for corporate expansion and relocation.

“This partnership underscores City Colleges of Chicago’s role as a go-to workforce partner, which global companies and Illinois leaders trust to develop talent needed to grow and innovate,” says Juan Salgado, chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago. “Our students will benefit from the insights of cutting-edge manufacturer DMG MORI, as we prepare them to launch and advance high-demand advanced manufacturing careers and contribute to a globally competitive Illinois workforce.”
