Aggressive Grinding Service Inc., North America’s leader in precision carbide grinding and advanced ceramic finishing, has hired Tom Shearer to be responsible for the company’s daily business operations, as well as sales and marketing.
Shearer is a mechanical engineer by training who comes to Aggressive Grinding from General Carbide, where he was director of marketing, business development, and managing director of the General Carbide UK plant. In that capacity, he led a branding campaign which increased market share and resulted in substantial revenue gains. Earlier in his career, Shearer held a variety of engineering and management positions with Kennametal Inc., Sandvik, Norton Materials, and Leybold Vacuum Products.
“Tom’s management and technical backgrounds, combined with his successful track record, will be essential in growing our business,” says Lester Sutton, founder and president of Aggressive Grinding. “He shares my vision for the company’s future and can focus on the big picture while simultaneously being attentive to the details that allow us to retain our customer base, and attract new business.”
Shearer is the author of "The Designer’s Guide to Tungsten Carbide," a reference guide specifically targeted to help engineers, designers, fabricators, and end users better utilize tungsten carbide materials. He has also written numerous technical articles, including “Diamond Wheel Grinding 101” and “Alumina Ceramic: A Material for Reducing Equipment Wear.”
“I am pleased to be a part of the Aggressive Grinding team,” says Shearer, who earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Management from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Grove City (PA) College. “The company is in a strong position to take advantage of new market opportunities, and I look forward to bringing my experience to bear on the many possibilities that lie ahead.”
