A less painful and more comfortable way for people with diabetes to inject insulin is making its way to the United States.
BD Medical Supplies, a global medical technology company, is set to bring the BD Ultra-Fine Nano 4mm Pen Needle with PentaPoint Comfort to the United States, according to a statement. Officials with BD call the needle the shortest and thinnest insulin needle available in the world, and the first 5-level needle for insulin pens that reduced injection pain and made injection easier and more comfortable during clinical studies.
PentaPoint needles are designed to improve injection by reducing the force needed to penetrate the skin by 23% compared to 3-bevel pen needles. By reducing the pain of injection, PentaPoint technology could help minimize the anxiety some children and adults with diabetes get from frequent needle sticks.
According to the statement, as many as one-fifth to one-third of people with diabetes are hesitant or unwilling to give themselves insulin injections.
