BIO-Europe 2012 Hosts More than 3,000 Life Science Leaders

More than 3,000 people from 48 countries attended the 18th annual BIO-Europe international partnering conference in Hamburg, Germany this year,  demonstrating the continued strength of the life science sector in the world markets.

“Dealmaking in the life sciences continues to be strong, and the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein region was an ideal location due to its progressive life science research sector,” says Carola Schropp, president of EBD Group. “Overall, we are seeing growth continue in partnering, especially in early-stage assets and licensing.”

The exhbition consisted of 124 exhbitors from 19 countries giving attendees access to 3,000 projects available for partnering over three days. BIO-Europe delegates also participated in program workshops and panels featuring industry leaders, as well taking advantage of networking opportunities.

“In Germany, the number of biotech companies has quadrupled in the past ten years. Together, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg are doing their best to continually advance this life science location and to ensure the best possible basic conditions for entrepreneurs and scientists by international standards,” saysDr. Horst-Michael Pelikahn, State Secretary, Hamburg Ministry of Science and Research. “The participants’ strong interest in this year’s BIO-Europe attests to the outstanding program and the concept of the conference that has been developed by the organizers and their partners.”

BIO-Europe 2013 will be held next November in Vienna, Autria in collaboration with local host Life Science Austria Vienna (LISAvienna), the life science cluster of the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna.
