“Navigate” the Way in Technical Innovation

Cambus Medical’s Design and Development Program for Minimally Invasive Medical Devices

Having just celebrated six competitive years in business – Cambus Medical, located in Galway, Ireland, – has launched a series of innovative technological advances in the medical device market. These include the pioneering Navigate program, a contract product development service, which aids customers through the entire product development cycle from idea generation and concept testing right through to design for manufacturability, validation, and product launch.

With 80% of the company’s products and services exported to over 23 countries worldwide, it confirms Cambus Medical’s position as an industry leader focused on developing and manufacturing technically advanced component solutions for minimally invasive medical devices used in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

John Farragher, co- founder with responsibility for Global Business Development at Cambus Medical, identifies the Navigate development team as one of its most powerful drivers for growth and innovation in the company: “We are fortunate to retain a team of highly experienced product & process development professionals, across a wide variety of specialized disciplines. Our location, in one of the most respected medical device clusters in the world, has contributed to our growth as we have tapped into the wealth of local talent developed here for well over two decades. This talent, along with our location’s global reputation for excellence in medical device manufacturing, is undoubtedly a major selling point for us overseas.”

Barry Comerford, CEO of Cambus Medical, adds, “the expertise, experience, responsiveness, and dedication shown by our team in delivering ‘best-in-class’ solutions is highly valued by our customers. They expect excellent performance from the Cambus team in delivering results for their most critical projects.”

As medical technologies continue to evolve, customers constantly challenge the Navigate team at Cambus to develop new supply solutions. While these solutions may not have been available in the past, it is the ongoing investment in the people at Cambus Medical that are reaping the results. Continually developing the skills and core competencies in this niche segment, challenging the status quo by not accepting that a feasible solution cannot be found, and then creating new process technologies to deliver these solutions if need be to our customer is paramount. Comerford positively points out that this is the driving force behind building Cambus Medical’s reputation for technical innovation.

Emma Conlon, Navigate manager, identifies the strong interaction between the Navigate development engineers and our customer’s engineers as the key to providing an energetic and efficient forum for the exchange of ideas, testing new concepts, and ultimately delivering the most innovative solutions for the customer, while accelerating product launch timelines throughout the development process.

A strong culture of innovation and a can-do-attitude to problem solving is evident throughout the entire company with 100% of sales revenue generated from new products or technologies developed within the past five years.

From an entrepreneurial start-up in 2007, Cambus Medical has grown aggressively with a driven and talented workforce of 70 people, a workforce forecast to grow substantially due to international contract wins and pioneering technological advances.

Cambus Medical has further strengthened its industry position following its recently announced partnership with Helix Medical, a leading global manufacturer for the medical device industry with operations in the United States, Ireland, Germany, Costa Rica, and China. Helix Medical is a division of the 163-year-old family owned Freudenberg Group of Germany, employing over 37,000 people worldwide.
