Cirtec Medical, a leading outsource partner for end-to-end medical device design, development, and manufacturing services, is more than doubling its operations in Costa Rica. This expansion is designed to better serve Cirtec's customers by offering enhanced manufacturing capabilities and increased capacity to support their growing needs in the neuromodulation, interventional, electrophysiology and structural heart markets.
By expanding its footprint in Costa Rica, Cirtec will provide customers with faster time-to-market, cost optimization, and increased manufacturing capabilities through greater vertical integration. Cirtec’s comprehensive approach manages the entire product lifecycle, from research and development in the U.S. to manufacturing in Costa Rica. The new facility, located next to Cirtec’s existing operation in the Coyol Free Zone, will offer a range of manufacturing solutions, from neurostimulation leads, extrusion, braiding and coil winding to finished device assembly and packaging.
“Costa Rica has become a critical hub for high-quality, efficient medical device manufacturing, and this 50,000 plus square foot expansion allows us to offer our customers even greater value,” says Brian Highley, CEO of Cirtec Medical. “This growth enables us to support increased demand by accelerating time to market, optimizing costs and broadening our manufacturing offerings in the industry. Our Costa Rica site enables our customers to scale efficiently while maintaining quality.”
“The expansion of Cirtec Medical highlights the role of foreign direct investment as a key driver of productive sophistication and capability transfers in Costa Rica. Strategic decisions like these reflect investor confidence in our institutional framework, our investment promotion policy, and the country’s stability to support the scale-up of complex global operations. From COMEX, we will continue advancing an investment agenda that boosts dynamic sectors and contributes to Costa Rica’s sustainable development,” says Manuel Tovar, minister of Foreign Trade.
“Cirtec Medical’s decision to expand in Costa Rica demonstrates the maturity of our ecosystem and the country’s capacity to support complex industrial processes, with access to a highly specialized and skilled workforce, and stable, competitive conditions. This expansion further positions Costa Rica as a strategic destination for establishing and scaling global operations in the medical technology sector,” states Laura López, general manager of the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER).
Cirtec’s Costa Rica operations leverage cost-effective labor, skilled talent, and lean manufacturing processes to offer faster, more cost-efficient, high-value transfers for customers. Additionally, this expansion reinforces Cirtec’s commitment to economic growth in the region, creating job opportunities for Costa Rica’s highly skilled workforce while supporting innovative medical device solutions for customers globally.
“We are thrilled to continue growing in Costa Rica, where we have access to a highly skilled and educated workforce,” says Mitchell Matamoros, GM of the Cirtec Costa Rica team. “This expansion enables us to meet the growing needs of our customers by offering shorter product development timelines and greater flexibility.”
