ControlTek of Vancouver, Washington has recently installed Selective Solder technology to enhance lead-free through hole production capabilities. The KISS-103 from ACE Production Technologies is designed to selectively solder through hole components such as connectors, into printed circuit boards, panels and other assemblies without disturbing nearby surface mount components. Components are kept in a nitrogen rich environment to reduce contamination and corrosion concerns.
The fast change over, and automation features make this a great solution for reducing costs, and increasing efficiency. "Our market position as a high quality, full service electronics manufacturing and design house requires staying current with technology and automating as many processes as possible," says Andy LaFrazia, President of ControlTek. "This investment allows us to eliminate hand soldering and significantly reduce manufacturing time by 50 to 80% on some production runs."
Medical device manufacturing requires an extremely rigid quality system, with repeatability that comes from investment in new technologies. While ControlTek serves a wide array of industries, medical device manufacturing offers a "best in class" quality standard that benefits many other product manufacturing divisions. ControlTek also has many RoHS compliant lead-free production parts and is currently using the selective soldering technology for lead-free electronics manufacturing only.
Offering a broad array of electronic manufacturing and design services, they have the ability to help plan production one project at a time to achieve optimal results. This includes materials management, part optimization and manufacturing recommendations. "Our job is to listen carefully to the customers requirements and then use our 38 years of design and manufacturing experience to move efficiently each project from product idea to the marketplace, and even into warranty support," adds Sean Neill, VP of Operations.
