The DePuy Family of Cos., one of the world’s largest orthopaedic and neuroscience device businesses, recently opened the DePuy Institute LLC at DePuy’s worldwide headquarters in Raynham.
The new facility will provide education, training and research on non-surgical early interventions to complex surgery in the areas of orthopaedics, spinal care, sports medicine, soft tissue repair, trauma and neurosciences. The goal of the DePuy Institute is to help health care professionals enhance their skills and gain new insights on filling unmet clinical needs across a range of conditions.
“Education, training and research are the cornerstones of success both inside and outside the operating room and are essential to the advancement of care and the improvement of patient outcomes,” says Mike Mahoney, Worldwide Company Group chairman, DePuy. “The DePuy Institute reflects our ongoing commitment to education throughout the continuum of orthopaedic and neurological care and creates an environment and sense of community conducive to learning, connecting and sharing knowledge across disciplines.”
The DePuy Institute will offer year-round educational programs on the latest concepts, techniques and technologies in the areas of minimally invasive surgery, aging spine, deformity, neurological disease, joint replacement and trauma care featuring faculty from leading teaching institutions and academic centers in the Boston area and throughout the world. It will also encourage collaboration between specialties to develop innovative solutions that improve patient care.
“Each surgeon, resident, fellow, hospital administrator, nurse or other health care professional who visits the DePuy Institute will engage in a personalized learning experience based on his or her individual skill set, background and interests,” says Diana Bacci-Walsh, worldwide vice president of professional education, DePuy. “They will also make new connections with their peers and colleagues that we hope will last a lifetime.”
The first educational and training program will be the “DePuy Spine Summit on Diagnosis and Treatment Options for the Aging Spine.” Clinicians will learn about advanced treatment options for various spinal pathologies including vertebral compression fractures, scoliosis, revision strategies and the use of minimally invasive techniques. This program is followed by a wide range of courses including the “Masters Revision Arthroplasty Knee & Hip Learning Center,” “Current Concepts in Knee and Shoulder Arthroplasty,” “High Performance Instrumentation for Contemporary Total Knee Arthroplasty” and the “Advanced Canadian Sports Medicine Leadership Forum,” to name a few.
