Diagnostic Devices Inc. plans to move much of its manufacturing to North Carolina from Asia, with the relocation adding about 100 jobs within two years.
The facility will be the new home of SensoTronics, a sister operation that manufactures Diagnostic Devices’ diabetes-testing products. Those devices include the company’s signature product, the Prodigy Meter, and diabetes-testing strips.
Opening the new facility will allow Diagnostic Devices to move half its production of the Prodigy Meter here from China and Taiwan. With that change, 80% of all the company’s products will be made here.
The decision comes at a time when many companies are moving their manufacturing operations overseas.
Richard Admani Abulhaj, chief operating officer explains that high-tech manufacturing processes will enable the company to make its products for a lower cost here with a smaller labor force. Plus, having the devices manufactured locally will reduce the company’s shipping expenses while improving quality control. Abulhaj owns the company with his brother, Ramzi.
