In advance of EMO Hannover 2017, journalists across the globe converged on Hannover, Germany for a preview of the show. Dr Jochen Kockler, member of the managing board, Deutsche Messe AG, explained that this preview included 37 exhibitors and we had a chance to see what was going to be unveiled in September.
With time to visit the tabletop booths set up at the preview, each participant offered a 120 second pitch on what they would have at EMO Hannover 2017.
Also speaking at the event was Carl Martin Welcker, general commissioner of the EMO Hannover, explaning what to expect from EMO Hannover 2017 – such as Industry 4.0; production operations; additive manufacturing (AM) processes; safety of machine tools; USA, Mexico, and India markets; start-ups for intelligent production; and more.
Projections from the presentation show a significant advancement in productivity: "If all succeeds, this signifies a quantum leap forwards in terms of productivity, and will catapult those who can do it to the leading edge of international competition,"
Industry 4.0
A stand dedicated to Industry 4.0 will be highlighted at the show in September. Two keynotes, from Stuttgart University's Prof. Dr-Ing. Hans-Christian Mohring and Prof. Dr-Ing. Thomas Bauernhansl, looked at the key enabling technologies that are transforming manufacturing.
Mohring discussed technologies, from the advancements in tooling, to AM, hybrid and virtual machines, and automation, emphasizing AM’s ability to optimize design. Trumpf, DMG Mori, Stratasys, ARBURG, Simufact, and Dassault Systemés will all be highlighting these advancements at the show.
Bauernhansl helped explain the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) – by 2020, there is projected to be 50 million IoT devices in use. In 2003, there was just 500,000, and the past 70 years can be split into four waves: 1950 - 1980 saw the beginning of digitalization; 1980 - 1990 brought virtualization; the following decade brought networking; and since the turn of the millennium, automatization.
At EMO
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will officially open the event on Monday September 18, 2017. The opening ceremony is scheduled to last for an hour and following Steinmeier’s speech will be Stephan Weil, the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, and CECIMO's President Luigi Galdabini.
