Instrument Aids Revision Sinus Surgery

ENTrigue's Ventera-R balloon system to be released in United States.

ENTrigue Surgical Inc., a privately held company that develops, manufactures and distributes medical devices used for ear, nose and throat surgical procedures, announces the limited commercial release in the United States of its Ventera-R Sinus Dilation System for revision surgery of the frontal, maxillary and sphenoid sinuses.

According to a statement, the Ventera-R Sinus Dilation System uses a single-use balloon delivered by a re-usable instrument based on the company's proprietary SerpENT articulating instrument technology and does not require manual tip shaping or the use of a guide wire or cannula for positioning the dilation balloon.

"We believe that the unique abilities of the Ventera-R System to articulate and lock into position within the nasal passageways will address the variable anatomy encountered during revision sinus surgery," says Fred Dinger, ENTrigue president and CEO.

Sinusitis, the inflammation of one or more of the paranasal sinuses, often requires surgical treatment to clear obstructions and restore air flow.  Revision, or repeat, surgery may be required if symptoms recur.

ENTrigue has launched other balloon dilation systems based on the Ventera platform in Canada, parts of Europe, and South Africa.  The company is also collaborating with fiagon GmbH to develop a system for ENT surgeons that is expected to combine navigation with one or more products of its Ventera Sinus Dilation platform.
