Mitsui Seiki USA Inc. opened a Turbine Technology Center in 2012 in culmination of the company’s decades of experience in developing manufacturing technology dedicated to hard metal machining and the nuances of machining blades for aerospace and power generation applications. Since the Turbine Center opened, the research and development team has acquired an even greater depth and understanding of the best practices of blade machining. Walker will share the latest findings. Persons attending this presentation will learn about the current technical challenges in blade machining. How the challenges can be overcome via manufacturing technology – the machine tool requirements, tooling solutions matched to the materials, and optimal programming methods to generate these complex forms. Walker will also address the market forces at work in the aerospace and power generation markets, which makes the know-how to produce these blades even more compelling today.
