About the topic
Grinding of new, super-hard and exotic materials can only be performed with diamond wheels. The most common method of preparing these wheels is via silicon-carbide or aluminum-oxide trueing. Until recently, this process was poorly understood, being done by feel.
This presentation discusses an investigation by Rush Machinery and The Grinding Doc into trueing of diamond wheels. The key parameters and removal mechanisms where studied and a fundamental model of trueing was developed. Experiments were performed to validate this model. Practical recommendations are given for trueing of diamond wheels for improved surface texture, shorter cycle times, and lower trueing-wheel consumption.
Registration is now open, so check out the IMTS 2018 website for more information.
