Plan to attend The IMTS 2018 Conferences to gain deeper insights into new manufacturing technologies & ideas!
About the topic
In this presentation, you will learn ways to approach lean manufacturing through reuse and recovery of high-value metallic wastes. Throughout this session, WPI researchers will touch on plant operations, cost justification, lean manufacturing, life cycle, and workforce training.
Through the realization of a viable and sustainable circular economy, lean manufacturing can be achieved only when all types of industries adopt a life-cycle approach to manufacturing. This approach requires that we minimize the use of new primary resources in manufacturing and adopt a lean process where metals and materials are fully recycled and the industries move toward a zero-waste tactic.
Primary and secondary producers of commodities (automotive, electronics, aerospace, etc.) have to recover the high-value fine metallic wastes generated via recycling to make their processes economically, energetically, and environmentally robust. In this presentation, we will provide examples from the automotive and electronics industries, where lean manufacturing can be achieved through internal materials reuse and recovery. The presentation will also cover how lean manufacturing can be achieved through academic collaborations via education, training, and research.
Registration is now open so check out the IMTS 2018 website for more information.
Dr. Brajendra Mishra is the director of the National Science Foundation’s Industry/University Collaborative Research Center on Resource Recovery & Recycling – the first National Center of its kind.
