In cooperation with technology partner Raydiance, A-1 Laser International has integrated the first femto-second laser system solution for industrial production requirements. The workstation integrates the first practical ultrafast-pulse (UFP) laser, the ‘Discovery’ from Raydiance, a new dual-shuttle motion system from NuTec and custom-designed beam delivery components from Precitec and LaserMech, and is designed for challenging micro-machining applications (e.g. athermal ablation).
“This is the first truly low-cost, industrial-grade UFP laser system solution made in the US”, says Russell Denton, the company’s VP sales & marketing. “It is also unconventional in terms of combining both rotary and flatbed motion controls in one stage without requiring tool changes. This gives the user the advantage of a full range of machining operations for both R&D and production. ”
The unique properties of ultrafast-pulse laser light have intrigued scientists and engineers for years. The ability to precisely cut - without heat - any known material offers a wealth of application opportunities, everything from ablating high value materials, to non-invasive surgical techniques. Traditional ultrafast-pulse technology has been big, expensive, complex, difficult to use, and unreliable. As a result, the technology has been stuck in large research labs, unable to provide commercial solutions. Raydiance (www.raydiance-inc.com) has deployed fiber and computing technologies to miniaturize the hardware of ultrafast-pulse technology and created the world’s first versatile and easy to use, desktop UFP laser platform. The 55kg, 10W ‘Discovery’ laser has a wavelength of 1552 nm, a pulse width of <800 fs and a M2<1.3.
A-1 Laser International is the system solution branch of A-1 Jay Machining, a contract manufacturing company in San Jose, CA with 50+ employees. The company develops custom made laser system solutions and specializes in equipment for micro-machining applications. It has placed more than 200 stent cutting systems worldwide.
