Batteries save lives. From defibrillators to blood glucose meters and other equipment, hospitals and physicians depend on portable power for critical medical devices.

Padilla says it's no surprise that the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has identified battery management as one of the top 10 challenges for hospital’s biomedical departments. Indeed, the FDA considers the management of battery-powered medical devices so important that it is hosting a workshop for industry experts to discuss the topic later this month (July 30-31, 2013) in Silver Spring, Md.
