Batteries save lives. From defibrillators to blood glucose meters and other equipment, hospitals and physicians depend on portable power for critical medical devices.
Interstate Batteries national account manager Joe Padilla says that as more medical devices become computerized, compact, and mobile, the number of battery-powered medical devices is increasing rapidly. The battery is one of the most critical components of a medical device. Any unexpected depletion or failure of the battery could cause the device to not function properly.
Padilla says it's no surprise that the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has identified battery management as one of the top 10 challenges for hospital’s biomedical departments. Indeed, the FDA considers the management of battery-powered medical devices so important that it is hosting a workshop for industry experts to discuss the topic later this month (July 30-31, 2013) in Silver Spring, Md.
Interstate Batteries is an established, dependable supplier – and maintenance resource – for the battery-powered medical equipment industry. “We are one of the few – if not only – national battery suppliers who can provide local service," Padilla states. "With our recycling program, on-demand delivery, and battery maintenance – all done locally – we can solve, and prevent, a lot of the battery management problems that hospitals and physician practices are facing."
Padilla explains that biomed managers report battery management concerns are widespread. These concerns range from proper charging methods, to battery life, to recycling. Interstate Batteries, through its All Battery Centers franchisees, is well-positioned to be the local "go to" source that creates and handles the battery management schedule, carries the right products, reduces shipping costs, helps with recycling, and even manages the battery life with its state-of-the-art Cadex equipment.
