Manufacturing Day is Friday Oct. 7, 2016

MFG DAY events such as open houses, community forums, and facility tours show the next generation what it means to be a manufacturer.

McLean, Virginia – Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY) is October 7. AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology endorses this annual celebration of modern American manufacturing and the great career paths it offers. AMT encourages firms to join the movement and show the next generation workforce what it means to be a manufacturer.

Today’s modern manufacturing workplaces are a far cry from the images in the minds of most students, parents, and educators. MFG DAY events such as open houses, community forums, and facility tours are a great way to change misperceptions and connect students making career choices with job creators. As a MFG DAY video asks: "Why would students choose manufacturing if they've never even been exposed to it?"

The MFG Day website is loaded with resources to help you plan your event, including the "Rock MFG DAY Kit" from MFG Day partner Edge Factor, a package of high-impact videos, a PowerPoint template, and audience engagement tools.

Your event can be modest – like inviting your staff’s families and friends to come and learn what your employees do every day. Or it can be bold – like devoting an entire day to welcoming students from local schools as well as your elected officials and the community at large. No matter the scale, your participation will make an impact on the next generation of manufacturing workers.

These experiences do matter. A recent study found that after participating in MFG Day events, 81% of students and 91% of educators were more convinced that manufacturing provides careers that are interesting and rewarding. Support MFG Day this October 7 to inspire tomorrow’s workforce to pursue careers in manufacturing.
