Applied Energetics' Electron Beam Applications Center

Customer demonstrations of the NHVG accelerator systems are available at the application center.

Applied Energetics Inc.'s advanced technology electron beam accelerator is now available for customer demonstrations in the new Applications Center in Tucson, AZ. The Applications Center contains the company's Nested High Voltage Generator (NHVG) accelerator system and a visitor's center. The facility is designed to provide customers access to the company's products and to enable demonstration of the new system for processing of materials, and other customer applications. The Applications Center provides a unique range of capabilities facilitated by leading NHVG electron beam system with a wide range of applications. Customers are encouraged to see the industry's most compact design and verify the benefits of e-beam irradiation for their material processes by working together with Applied Energetics' experts.

The NHVG is a very compact, inexpensive accelerator that can be utilized for in-line processing as a complete solution with minimal impact on existing industrial processing facilities. The system can be configured to include the accelerator, scanning system, and material-handling equipment as required by a customer's unique requirements. Electron beam applications include cross-linking of plastics and polymers, curing of composites and adhesives, sterilization of disposable medical supplies and food/drink packaging, treatment of air and water-borne pollution, X-Ray inspection of cargo and vehicles, verification of material integrity quality, electron beam research, and ion accelerator implantation for semiconductors.

Joseph Hayden, president of AE, comments, "This new Applications Center demonstrates Applied Energetics' commitment to our customers' most challenging production and processing requirements. This capability is a result of our strategic initiative to transition the leading-edge technologies we have developed for our government customers into industrial systems that can provide new capabilities to commercial manufacturers. Electron beam processing offers significant processing advantages over other technologies, but has not been widely adopted due to the size and cost of more traditional electron beam systems. We believe these barriers have been addressed by our compact, solid state NHVG architecture. Industrial customers now have the opportunity to utilize our NHVG electron beam accelerator in our Applications Center on their own applications and materials to better understand the capabilities and value that this new system can bring to their manufacturing processes."
