A Sandvik Coromant Technologic open house event will happen on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, focusing on developing workforce skills and productivity in the manufacturing industry. The event, held at the Sandvik Coromant Productivity Center, Fair Lawn, N.J., will take place from 9am to 5pm.
The full day event will provide manufacturers with ways to improve machining processes and help them achieve profitability. Peter Borden, president of American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association (AMTDA), will give the keynote presentation “We are all teachers and students.” Borden will speak on the current state of manufacturing in the United States and the critical shortage of skilled labor that faces the industry.
Following the presentation, Borden will moderate an industry panel discussion on How Modern Machine Tool Technology Affects Workforce Skills. The panel will discuss the changing demands on the workforce as a result of the latest manufacturing technologies. Representatives from both Sandvik Coromant and Machine Tool Builders will participate. John Jacobsen, director of education, will represent Sandvik Coromant in the panel.
Additionally, the schedule will include four 45-minute long breakout sessions intended to provide manufacturers with powerful strategies and insights to help them meet every aspect of the planning and implementation process. Available at four different time slots, the sessions include:
- Machine Investment Planning
- Process & Production Planning
- Production Dollars & Sense
- Tooling Trends & Technologies
Live machine demonstrations will also run throughout the day, including demonstrations on CAM, high-pressure coolant, and multi-task tooling. A machine demonstration will follow an overview of Sandvik Coromant’s basic metalworking training course, metal cutting technology. Furthermore, the Beyond the Cutting Edge: Tooling Services demonstration will present the various services offered by Sandvik Coromant, including vending, recycling, laser marking, customer build tooling, and logistical support.
“At Sandvik Coromant we believe that training and education are at the heart of keeping your success in focus,” says Kevin Mayer, productivity center manager. “Through open house events like Technologic, customers and educators are given the resources they need to get the best possible performance from their manufacturing equipment and processes.”
