Triad companies explore high school apprenticeships to build work force

Several Triad companies are looking at apprenticeship programs as a way to train students starting as early as the high school years and build a talent pipeline.


A recent apprenticeship summit hosted by the Triad Workforce Solutions Collaborative at Machine Specialties Inc. brought 68 attendees representing organizations such as gym fitness equipment manufacturer Precor, Piedmont Aviation, ConvaTec, and GKNDriveline, said Donna Newton, director of the workforce initiative at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, where the collaborative is based. She only expected about 40 attendees.
