Mazak introduces the double-turret technology of its new Quick Turn Nexus 250-II MSY-D multi-tasking machine. The technology provides greater tooling capacity—without the expense of a tool magazine—for the high production of complex, multi-process parts and automated operations. The machine also incorporates two turning spindles, milling capability, and Y-axis machining functionality for done-in-one production.
For increased processing versatility, Mazak’s double-turret design combines a turning turret situated side-by-side with a milling turret for a total capacity of 23 tools. One direct drive motor efficiently powers both the turning and the milling turret indexing as well as drives milling cutter rotation.
Two turning spindles on the QTN 250-II MSY-D generate the power and speed for both heavy-duty and high-speed machining of bar fed or chucked workpieces. The main headstock features a 10" chuck, mounted on a 35hp, 4,000rpm integrated spindle motor for heavy-duty work, while the second spindle, with 6” chuck, provides 6,000rpm and 15hp for high-speed applications and finishing operations. Both spindles have a full C-axis with 0.0001? increments for full contouring capability.
As an automated cell at IMTS 2012, the QTN 250-II MSY-D was equipped with a GR100 gantry robot loader as well as with a loop pallet conveyor for complete unattended high production of chucked parts. The two-axis overhead gantry loads and unloads parts from the conveyor that features 12 pallets for continuous machine operation.
