Washington – 3D printing of plastics models and prototypes is a well-established technology and now interest is moving towards applications for 3D printing using metallic materials. In this webinar Dr. Bandyopadhyay discusses a variety of industrial printing and coating applications driven by the medical and aerospace industries as well as his research for using metal 3D printers in Space exploration. This webinar describes the use of LENS 3D printing for metal additive manufacturing applications. Applications including printing of porous structured medical implants, applying coatings using reactive and non-reactive materials, and direct fabrication and device repair using moon rock regolith will be discussed. The talk will highlight research data obtained over the past eight years at Washington State University.
