Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels Presenting at AdvaMed

Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. will address the world’s premier medical technology and diagnostics conference, AdvaMed 2011: The MedTech Conference on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He joins a robust speaker lineup that includes President George W. Bush in addressing industry stakeholders at the 5th annual conference hosted by the Advanced Medical Technology Association to be held in Washington D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, September 26-28, 2011. Governor Daniels will provide a breakfast plenary and President Bush will provide a luncheon keynote address.
 
Daniels was elected the 49th Governor of Indiana in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 to a second and final term. As Governor, Daniels’ first legislative success was focused on the creation of the public-private Indiana Economic Development Corporation which replaced a failing state bureaucracy in the mission of attracting new jobs. In each of its first four years of existence, the agency broke all previous records for new jobs in the state, and was associated with more than $18 billion of new investment. In 2008, Site Selection magazine and CNBC both named Indiana as the Most Improved State for Business in the country, and the state is now near the top of every national ranking of business attractiveness.
 
Indiana is known for its strong medical device and technology community, which includes manufacturers such as Zimmer and DePuy Orthopeadics. This sector annually contributes $13.8 billion to the local economy and supports nearly 55,000 jobs, direct and indirect. Nationally, the medical device and technology supports 2 million jobs, accounts for $24.6 billion to the total U.S. payroll, and is responsible for generating $33 billion in annual exports.
 
Prior to becoming Governor, Daniels had a successful career in business. He served as CEO of the Hudson Institute and President of Eli Lilly and Company's North American Pharmaceutical Operations. He also has served as Chief of Staff to Senator Richard Lugar, Senior Advisor to President Ronald Reagan and Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush.
