Delegation to Discuss State's Medical Device Industry

Members of Indiana's congressional delegation are planning a forum next week to examine challenges.

Member of Indiana’s congressional delegation will host a congressional field forum next Monday, October 24, beginning at 10:00 AM EDT. Joining members of the Indiana delegation will be Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-3), co-chairman of the House Medical Technology Caucus, and Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-2), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee which deals with legislation related to the medical device industry.

The forum will run as a congressional hearing, and representatives from several of Indiana’s medical device community will be on hand to discuss challenges in the FDA medical device approval process and how the industry-specific tax included in last year’s health care law could negatively affect their industry. Paulsen has introduced a bill in the House to repeal that tax and another bill to improve the medical device approval process. Indiana’s Senator Dan Coats has filed similar tax repeal legislation in the Senate. Following the forum, which is open to the media, the members will hold a press conference.
