Bal Seal to Launch SYGNUS

SYGNUS is the First Contact System with Integrated Isolation Seals

Bal Seal Engineering, Inc., a global provider of custom-engineered sealing, connecting and conducting solutions, has announced plans to launch the world’s first integrated seal and electrical contact system for active implantable devices.

The company confirmed that it has set a date of October 13th, 2010 for the official rollout of its SYGNUS Implantable Contact System, which combines electrical contacts and isolation seals in a standardized, platform-ready “stack” configuration to provide a turnkey connecting solution for implantable devices used in cardiac rhythm management, neuromodulation, and neuro sensing therapies.

According to Bal Seal, the new SYGNUS system pairs the company’s Bal Conn electrical contact technology with pre-tested silicone seals, resulting in an “all-inclusive package” engineered to help large and small device OEMs improve speed to market and eliminate the need for procurement and testing of individual components.

“The upcoming launch of SYGNUS is our direct response to the medical device community’s demand for an integrated sealing and connecting system that incorporates an established, ultra-reliable contact in a plug-and-play platform that doesn’t compromise on performance,” Bal Seal Global Medical Electronics Account Manager Mark Russell explains. “SYGNUS builds on a proven, trusted technology that’s already at work in over a million implantable devices worldwide, and it opens the door to new breakthroughs in device development that may otherwise not have been realized due to resource and time restrictions.”

Bal Seal said the number of contacts and seals in the SYGNUS system will be configurable to meet unique application and industry requirements, such as the IS4 standard for cardiac health management devices. The Canted-coil spring contact design will offer multi-point conductivity and low insertion force, and will compensate for any surface irregularity, no matter how small.  The system’s precision-engineered silicone seals will provide superior dielectric isolation, and the combined stack will offer excellent resistance to long-term material adhesion and potential fatigue caused by multiple lead insertion cycles.  Contacts in the stack will be force and resistance tested, and sealing components will be packaged to critical clean standards.

In its booth (#344) at the MD&M Minneapolis show, which runs October13th-14th, 2010, Bal Seal will officially introduce the new SYGNUS™ Implantable Contact System to an estimated audience of more than 7,000 attendees. The company will demonstrate the system’s functionality using a variety of media, and will urge medical device design engineers and OEMs to connect with SYGNUS and “connect with confidence.”
