Battelle is the world’s largest independent research science and technology development organization. It specializes in world-class laboratory management, national security, energy technology and health and life sciences. Founded by the will of Gordon Battelle, Battelle operates with a founding principle of transferring technology through commercialization.
“The companies that contact Battelle to acquire breakthrough technologies are seeking a respected partner that’s in the business of research and development for the long haul,” said Battelle President and CEO Dr. Jeff Wadsworth. “Intellectual property is one of our strengths and a major example of how Battelle helps companies it works with become more competitive and accelerate innovation.”
Working with Battelle can mean a leg up on the competition as well. “Licensing Battelle’s cutting edge, patented intellectual property can give companies a competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Dr. Spencer Pugh, Battelle’s Vice President and Manager of Industrial and International Markets. “Battelle intellectual property also can be a springboard for new technologies, and we are well suited to do more contract R&D for our partners to advance or optimize that application.”
As the world’s largest, independent research and development organization, Battelle provides innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing needs in the areas of security, energy technology, and health and life sciences. It advances scientific discovery and application by conducting $6.2 billion in global R&D annually through contract research, laboratory management and technology commercialization. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Battelle oversees 22,000 employees in more than 130 locations worldwide, including seven national laboratories which Battelle manages or co-manages for the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a nuclear energy lab in the United Kingdom.
Battelle also is one of the nation’s leading charitable trusts, focusing on societal and economic impact and actively supporting and promoting science and math education.
