GE Healthcare has integrated the new Paracube Micro oxygen sensor into the acclaimed Engström Carestation.
With the original Paracube oxygen sensor having delivered a strong reliability record for the Engström in more than five years of field operation, GE Healthcare again chose the leading-edge performance of Hummingbird Sensing Technology as the dependable and trustworthy choice for reliable ventilation control.
A complete, expandable respiratory center designed for a wide range of patient requirements, the Engström has set a new standard in respiratory care by offering advanced features, medication delivery, network integration capabilities, and central monitoring interfacing to maximize effectiveness of patient care. At the heart of the Engström’s performance is the effective monitoring and management of patient O2 levels, facilitated by Hummingbird’s reliable and non-depleting paramagnetic oxygen sensing technology. Used for the precise monitoring of delivered oxygen concentration, the Paracube Micro is a crucial component in the Engström’s exceptional ventilation performance and delivering a low cost of ownership.
Unlike many ventilator systems, which use traditional electrochemical sensors to measure oxygen, the Paracube Micro’s patent paramagnetic oxygen sensor technology provides a stable, accurate, and non-depleting measurement that requires minimal calibration and does not need to be replaced. This non-consumable design means the elimination of daily calibration due to excellent measurement stability and zero ongoing costs – a key factor for GE Healthcare in calculating how to deliver the lowest overall cost-of-ownership of the Engström to customers.
“The engineering of the Engström Carestation required GE to select components only of a high quality to fulfill the design vision for this world-leading product,” says Paul Hunsicker, global product manager, respiratory care and sleep healthcare systems, GE Healthcare.
“The flexibility and forward-looking design ethos of the Hummingbird Paracube Micro was therefore the perfect partner to help us deliver exceptional ventilation control.”
“The relationship we have with GE and the integration of the Micro into the Engström Carestation is something that Hummingbird greatly values,” says Martin Cox, general manager, Hummingbird Sensing Technology.
“We are especially proud that Hummingbird technology is an active participant in GE delivering an exceptional product that plays such an important part in effective patient care.”
