Partnership to Expand 2011 Rubber Expo

Rubber Expo 2011 to include Advanced Materials in Health Care

The Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is developing an extensive technical symposia for the 180th Technical Meeting at the 2011 Rubber Expo and Advanced Materials in Health Care show to be held on October 11-13, 2011, at The International Exposition Center (I-X Center) in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Rubber Division, ACS has also expanded their supporting partners to include: the Austen Bioinnovation Institute, BioEnterprise Inc., BioOhio, PolymerOhio, Inc., Cleveland Clinic Innovation, The University of Akron College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM), Cleveland I-X Center and the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center.

During the exposition, the Rubber Division, ACS will continue to offer technical symposia and educational workshops in rubber and polymer research, applications, technology and business while adding others in advanced biomaterials, research and applications relating to the healthcare industry.  Dr. Judit E. Puskas, professor of polymer science and integrated bioscience at The University of Akron, is leading a distinguished group from NEOUCOM, West Pharmaceutical, Case Western Reserve University, Nektar and The Ohio State University to develop the technical and educational programs for advanced materials in health care.

Robert W. (Bob) Handlos, Vice President of Product Development for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is scheduled to be the keynote speaker for the overall 180th Technical Meeting.

One of the founding fathers of modern bioengineering Buddy Ratner, professor & Michael L. & Myrna Darland endowed chair in technology commercialization at the University of Washington and author of Biomaterials science: an introduction to materials in medicine will be the plenary speaker at the Advanced Materials in Health Care technical symposium.

Additionally, Dr. Frank Douglas, CEO of the Austen BioInnovation Institute and Dr. Joseph Kennedy, professor at The University of Akron and the inventor of the "stint" will follow Dr. Ratner in the general session.
Scheduled symposia topics include:

• Advanced Materials in Health Care - New!
• Aerospace and Military Applications of Rubber
• Hoses, Belts and Engineered Products
• Rubber Recycling
• New Commercial Developments
• Advances in Materials and Tire Technology
• Silica Technology
• Mixing and Processing
• Coupling of Rubber
• Footwear & Sporting Applications
• Regulations
• Nanostructure and Functional Elastomers
• Heat Resistant Elastomers

For more than 30 years, the Rubber Expo and Technical Meetings have been a highly successful venue attracting thousands of attendees and exhibitors.  Building on this success, the expanded event offers unique opportunities for rubber, polymer and biomaterial companies as well as those in the health care industry to network, display their products and services, attend technical programs and courses to learn about new research related to health care.
More information and the floor plan are available on the Rubber Division's website at www.rubber.org.  Additionally, information on becoming an exhibitor can be obtained through Beth Berkheimer, Rubber Division exposition & meetings manager, at 330-972-7424 or bethb@rubber.org.
