E-Z Burr Tool Company is celebrating 50 years of innovation. With E-Z Burr’s first-ever deburring tool manufactured in 1960, this marked the beginning of a new era in high-performance deburring and chamfering tools.
E-Z Burr Tool Company was founded by G&R Cutter in 1960 in which the very first E-Z Burr branded tool was developed. In 1968 G&R Cutter formed a partnership with William Robinson Sr. of Robinson Tool Co., which was primarily a tool shop that also built gigs, fixtures and special machines. In 1976 Robinson and G&R Cutter severed their ties in which G&R kept the special machine portion of the business, while Robinson held onto the E-Z Burr product and solely focused on developing a line of improved deburring and chamfering tools. The company then became the E-Z Burr Division of Robinson Tool Co.
Robinson Sr. diligently tested a high-speed blade that not only cut different materials but also provided the spring pressure. His success in accomplishing this innovative design gave E-Z Burr their first patent in 1978, and also solidified the core design of E-Z Burr’s front and back hole deburring in a single pass.
Robinson Sr. retired in 1985, and sold E-Z Burr Tool Company to his son, Bill Robinson, who is still the owner today. E-Z Burr currently holds 4 patents, 1 pending patent and 2 expired patents.
Bill Robinson has proved E-Z Burr’s quality and performance with his longevity in the marketplace. E-Z Burr competes with much larger tool manufacturers that sell a wider breadth of product, but Bill sees that as an advantage. “We solely focus on deburring and chamfering tools, which is one of many reasons why our deburring products are the best in the world. It’s all that we do.”
Since its inception in 1960, E-Z Burr Tool Company used to primarily serve the automotive industry with a high-speed steel tool. In 2002 a line of high performance carbide tools was developed which afforded E-Z Burr a successfully entry and expansion into other industries such as aerospace, defense, and energy. Had it not been for this early diversification, E-Z Burr Tool Company may have had a much harder time surviving the recent economic downturn.
“When the market crashed in 2008, I was really worried; but our continuous innovation, early diversification efforts, and marketing, really made a huge difference.” Robinson explains. “Our products are great quality and provide a solution to a lot of manufacturing challenges. Deburring is our sole specialty and we will continue to enjoy this ride for years to come.”
