Spectar Copolyester for Orthopedic Market

Spartech Corporation is now producing Spectar copolyester from Eastman Chemical Company in sheet sizes of 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch thicknesses for use in the orthopedic medical device market.

Spartech Corporation, an innovator in the development of earth-friendly engineered thermoplastic sheet materials and engineered product solutions, is now producing Spectar copolyester from Eastman Chemical Company in sheet sizes of 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch thicknesses for use in the orthopedic medical device market.

“Our sheet is made from 100 percent Eastman Spectar™ copolyester resin,” says Bob Kaplar, National Distribution Manager. “The sheet is available in 4-foot by 8-foot sizes off the floor; 8-inch x 10-inch hand samples are also available. It is highly chemical resistant and non-corrosive making it the perfect choice for thermoforming orthopedic casts, chest protectors, neck braces and nursery isolettes. Spectar copolyester sheet is also recyclable. Overages and trim can be reground and reprocessed into other non-medical products.”

Spectar copolyester is a thermoplastic sheet used in engineering applications and offers the capability to produce complex shapes, precise details, deep draws and compound curves without worrying about durability. It is easily formed, die-cut and punched. It brings increased design freedom and lower fabrication costs. This copolyester composition has passed appropriate ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing. In sheet form, Spectar copolyester has the impact strength and fabrication ease that acrylic can't touch, with the durability to significantly reduce packaging and shipping costs.
