Officials from Microline Surgical Inc., a leading manufacturer of reposable instruments for minimally invasive surgery, launch an enhanced version of its MiSeal Reposable Thermal Ligating System. MiSeal is the first and only reposable device that simultaneously seals and divides soft tissue using direct thermal energy, offering surgeons the ability to achieve exceptional patient outcomes at a considerable cost advantage.
MiSeal is comprised of a reusable handle and disposable tips, combining the precision of a fully disposable instrument with the economic benefits and quality of a fully reusable hand piece. Leveraging feedback from surgeons, Microline has redesigned MiSeal to feature a more ergonomic handle that can be locked into position for continuous sealing to minimize fatigue and improve the surgeon's experience when performing long, complex surgical procedures.
"The field of laparoscopy is constantly evolving with surgeons extending the reach of minimally invasive surgery into new clinical areas to deliver optimal patient outcomes," states Microline Executive Chairman Dr. Jean-Luc Boulnois. "As laparoscopic surgeons perform a greater variety of more complex procedures, they require technologies that can meet the demands faced in the OR. We've redesigned MiSeal to provide the same functionality valued by our customers delivered in a way that addresses their changing needs."
Unlike conventional products that use monopolar, bipolar or ultrasonic energy as modes of operation, MiSeal features proprietary thermal fusion technology, which employs direct thermal energy and focused pressure to create a high-integrity seal and a clean division, while minimizing the risk of collateral tissue damage. MiSeal is powered by the Universal Power Supply (UPS), a compact, three-pound, reusable power source that can hang from an IV pole or sit on a tabletop, offering ease of set-up and use, which can reduce procedure and clean-up time.
