MobileOptx smartphone camera adapter captures and transmits high-quality endoscopic stills and videos.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – MobileOptx LLC is a commercial-stage medical device company with a mission to provide simple solutions to physicians to improve patient care and safety. The first product is a patent-pending, simple-to-use device that couples most clinical endoscopes to a smartphone. With most physicians now carrying smartphones, it is logical to use the device to capture images both pictures and video for later review by supervisors, patients, or for the medical record. The need for repeat endoscopy will be reduced by having this record, improving safety.

How it works

  1. Carefully place your smartphone in the smartphone case. It should fit snugly and can remain on your phone, even when you are not using the adapter.
  2. Holding onto the lens portion of the adapter, slide the tab into the tracks on the case until it clicks.
  3. Retract the spring-loaded collar, which exposes the blue clamping pieces. Place the endoscope eyepiece within the collar and release the spring.
  4. Use your smartphone camera and video as you would normally to view. For best picture quality, maximize screen brightness and the brightness of the light source.

MobileOptx was founded by physicians, Dr. Natasha Mirza, a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at University of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Jason Brant a fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Pennsylvania. It is a spin out of the University Of Pennsylvania Medical School Department Of Otolaryngology and the UPStart Program.

The company plans to develop a full line of smartphone cases to accommodate all types of phones.
