Michigan is offering tax credits to auto suppliers that want to diversify into the medical sector.
Plastics company WJG Enterprises, a maker of auto parts, will get a state tax credit valued at $993,024 over seven years. The tax break was approved by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority following a recommendation from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
WJG sought the economic assistance to further its plans to invest $4 million into its facility in Charlotte, MI.
The expansion will help WJG diversify its business. It currently makes low-volume service parts for the automotive industry. With the expansion, it will start to make components for medical devices such as MRI machines and lab equipment.
WJG had been considering sites in Ohio and Tennessee before settling on Michigan for its expansion. The city of Charlotte is considering abatements to support the project.
