Boosters in Minnesota are looking to create a Medical Technology Manufacturing Institute, according to Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
Universities, senators, and organizations, such as the Greater MSP, the Minnesota High Tech Association, and Life Science Alley, have expressed support for the institute to the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, citing strong medical-device and manufacturing industries in the state.
The institute would be part of a network proposed by President Barack Obama in March to bring universities and industry together to bring businesses advanced technology. Congress has yet to approve the $1 billion in funding the project needs to create 15 institutes throughout the country.
