Pierceton, IN-based Paragon Medical announced today that they recently celebrated the grand opening of their new manufacturing facility in Smithfield, Utah. Company management and employees were joined at a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 5th by the Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce and other local officials to commemorate this historic event for the company and the community. The ribbon cutting was followed by an open house for invited guests and employee’s families.

Paragon’s Utah plant manufactures trauma and sports medicine implantable components, as well as instrumentation for the sports medicine and spinal market segments. Paragon acquired the Smithfield plant in 2006 from DePuy Mitek, a Johnson & Johnson Company. Since purchasing this facility four years ago, Paragon has increased its workforce in Smithfield by 61% due to superior performance in meeting customer expectations associated with manufacturing medical devices.

With the new 54,000 square foot facility, Paragon will continue its investment in people and processes to support the changing needs of the medical device market. Focus will be given to employee development in machining, special processes and medical packaging as well as establishing in-house injection molding capabilities in early 2010.

The new facility features a 2,000 square foot Class 100,000 Clean Room for packaging and assembly of medical products and a state-of-the-art water treatment process. The group has also been a spring board for Paragon’s instrumentation and implantable component manufacturing in Changzhou, China.

“We are extremely excited about the opening of this new facility,” said Gary McGill, President and COO of Paragon Medical. “The facility was designed in part, to address changing enforcement of FDA regulations associated with FDA GMP. Paragon has always strived to be the industry leader in producing the highest quality medical devices in the market. Our new manufacturing facility will help us continue to meet or exceed those expectations, and will allow us to remain a pacesetter in the industry.”
