Oxford Optronix new systems, called OxyLite Pro and and OxyFlo Pro, use fibre-optic micro sensors to offer real-time measurements of local tissue oxygenation (ptiO2), tissue blood perfusion (blood flow) and tissue temperature.
Oxford Optronix CEO Dr Andy Obeid notes that the release of its new OxyLite Pro and OxyFlo Pro systems is the culmination of five years of continued product development in this area.
"The introduction of our third-generation platform, enables us to continue providing the 'gold-standard' in tissue vitality monitoring that our customers have come to expect," Obeid adds.
OxyLite Pro and and OxyFlo Pro can be used either as standalone or together for measurements of tissue oxygenation, blood flow and temperature for hypoxia and ischaemia conditions.
University of Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children medical biophysics and medical imaging assistant professor, Dr Hai-Ling Margaret Cheng, said that in its studies on response to gas inhalation in abdominal organs, OxyLite and OxyFlo allowed them to monitor tissue pO2 and perfusion response simultaneously in the liver and kidney.
Equipped with oxygen sensors that are based on optical fluorescence technology, the touchscreen OxyLite Pro system is a two or four-channel instrument that can provide continuous, quantitative, and high-sensitivity monitoring of oxygen availability to cells and tissue.
Besides hypoxia, this instrument can be used in the monitoring of cerebral oxygen levels in cases of stroke and brain injury, monitoring of vital organ and muscle tissues.
OxyFlo Pro, as a two or four-channel laser-Doppler instrument, can be used for measuring changing tissue blood flow in acute experimental cases.
It can be used in the monitoring of peripheral vascular disorders, cerebral perfusion in models of stroke and brain injury, tumor perfusion/angiogenesis, blood flow in free flaps and pedicle flaps, wound healing and gastroenterology.
