Bench Top Vertical Projection Optical Comparator

New Starrett comparator allows flat parts to be laid on a glass plate in the work stage.

Starrett Kinemetric Engineering Inc., a subsidiary of the L.S. Starrett Company, announces the Model VB400, a new bench top vertical projection optical comparator that allows flat parts to be simply laid on a glass plate in the work stage. The base model features a 16” diameter vertical screen and a 16” x 9” work stage with 8” x 4” of travel and 50 lb (23 kg) load capacity. Ultra-bright LEDs provide long-life surface and profile illumination. Heidenhain X-axis and Y-axis linear glass scales provide 0.00002” (0.5 µm) of resolution. In addition, a Q-axis scale reads out angles to 1’ resolution as the projection screen is rotated.

The basic readout device for the VB400 is a 10” color touch screen tablet PC, which runs MetLogix M2 touch screen software with Windows 7 network connectivity. 2D geometric software constructs include diameters, radius, angle, line and point features, and skew correction for faster setup. Use is facilitated by touch screen operation that includes pinch, swipe, and touch to display geometric constructs and X, Y, and Q (protractor) measurements.

The VB400 is available with optical edge detection and a tablet PC with M2E software to remove operator subjectivity. It is also available with a Quadra-Chek digital readout (DRO). This product can be a basic QC121 for distance readings, a QC221 for 2D geometries, or a QC221E for optical edge detection.

VB400 options include six projection lenses for magnifications from 10x to 100x, fiber-optic optical edge detection, a larger 18” x 11” workstage with 10” x 6” of travel, parts holding fixtures, chrome-on-glass calibration standards, a cabinet stand, a canopy with curtains, and a control footswitch.

Pricing for the VB400 optical comparator starts at $11,000.
